Institutional Investors

SG CIB was one of the first equity derivatives platforms to introduce an offer for institutional investors...

We can provide institutional investors with the most innovative flow and structured investments in the industry. We have also developed an equity finance platform that has played a significant role in the development of the exclusive direct-lending market since awarded our first mandate in January 2002.
A Dedicated Cross-Asset Team for our ALM Practice

SG CIB created the Global Solutions for Financial Institutions (GSFI) joint venture between the Equity Derivatives and Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities divisions to specifically cater to our clients' ALM needs:

  • Insurance and pension issues often involve hybrid solutions requiring multi-asset expertise
  • A dedicated team of seasoned structurers supports the Equity Derivatives institutional salesforce comprising: former derivatives or ALM specialists within institutional groups, staff with actuarial, accounting, regulatory, banking and insurance backgrounds
  • Model of an existing pension  fund and the integration of structured products in its strategic asset allocation; a comparison between rolling short-term hedges with static long-term structured hedging strategies for an insurance company

Pension Funds

Worldwide coverage for Pension Funds
  • Hybrid Hedges: GSFI has constructed a variety of hybrid hedging solutions allowing Pension Funds to retain an existing asset and liability mix, ensure a funding ratio above a  minimum level, and improve stability in the funding ration after a given time horizon.
  • Portfolio Diversification: SG CIB has also introduced hedge funds into the asset allocation of Pension Funds through the Lyxor Managed Accounts platform to increase diversification through assets decorrelated from traditional investments and reduce volatility in returns

Insurers

The most innovative solutions for Insurers

Variable Annuity (VA) schemes are unit-linked insurance contracts which combine funds (statistically or dynamically managed) and guarantees called GMxB for Guaranteed Minimum x (various types of) Benefits. Already a mature business in the US and a booming one in Japan, these types of contracts are now taking off across Europe and Asia.

SG CIB can support insurance companies with their VA schemes in the following ways:

  • Hedging of existing VA schemes via the bank's unique GMxB reinsurance platform, Catalyst Re
  • Re-engineering of existing GMxB contracts in order to minimize demographic risks
  • Development of new VA schemes with optimal guarantees and associated risk management
